Marathon Relay Review

Congratulations on an awesome Marathon Relay.  We raised over $1,300 for Sportable.  A nice way to end a great year.  The Midlothian Exchange thinks so as well.

Be sure to check out the Photo Gallery.

Over at the Sportable blog, there is another write up and some more pictures.

Marathon Relay for Sportable

Closed

In order to close out a successful Track and Field Season, we are
planning on doing our 3rd Annual Marathon Relay on Thursday, May 6th
from 3:00pm-4:30pm (our regular practice time).

This year we will be raising money for Sportable.

We’ve
helped run concessions at Sportable Wheelchair basketball tournaments
in the past and were impressed with their mission. We’ve found out that
they are trying to start a Track and Field Program and are looking to
raise funds to buy Track and Field equipment. So we are going to ask
our athletes this year to get a few neighbors, friends, and wealthy
relatives to “sponsor” them running the Marathon Relay this year.

The Marathon Relay started out as trying to get the entire team
to run a cumulative 26.2 mile marathon (by passing a baton like a relay
race) during a practice and to raise awareness for a cause. This year
we are going to add a “Field Relay” as well to see how far we can
cumulatively throw a shot put and a discus. As always, Parents and
Siblings are welcome and encouraged to participate. This is a low key
event so we don’t want anyone stressing out about getting sponsors.

Additionally, if you are looking for a perfect gift for the
coaching staff this year, a donation to Sportable in the name of our
Track Team would be the perfect thing.

Our end of the year pizza party that coincides with the Marathon
Relay will be sponsored this year by Automatic Leasing Service, Inc.
That’s right, free pizza AND soda.  It just doesn’t get any better
than
this.

Coach Maria Carreras has arranged for her company to supply the
food and drink so that you can use your checkbook to support Sportable.

We will continue our regular practice schedule until the Marathon
Relay.

Thanks for your help in this and we hope to see you on Thursday, May
6th.
